Reuters- Workers sort packages after Singles’ Day in 2015 at Alibaba

The biggest shopping day in the world is fast approaching and it’s not Black Friday.  Single’s Day, China’s celebration of being romantically unattached, is celebrated every year on November 11 (11/11…do you see it now?). Alibaba, China’s biggest eCommerce company, has successfully turned this day into one of the biggest and most unbelievable online shopping sprees in the world, with the intention to spoil yourself with luxuries and treats. Last year a record smashing $14.3 billion was spent in just 24 hours on Single’s Day, far exceeding Cyber Monday’s $3.07 billion, and this year Alibaba is expected to generate $20 billion in sales according to Fung Global Retail Tech.

Beepsend  is directly connected to Chinese operators to deliver SMS to all subscribers in China. With our local knowledge expertise and Tier 1 A2P (Application to Person) SMS messaging services, we provide a secure and cost efficient route to China.  Beepsend was one of the first known companies to have a contract whereby a European SMS-messaging provider has direct access for A2P messaging to the Chinese market and its potential reach to over 1.2 billion subscribers. Examples of A2P messaging are used for transaction and information services, delivery and transport notifications, and verification and security such as 2 Factor Authentication and One Time Passwords (OTP).

This year more than 40,000 brands, including many American retailers, will participate on this Single’s Day event, according to Alibaba.  US retailers participating this year include Costco, Macy’s, Target, Starbucks, Gap, and The Children’s Place, Alibaba spokesman Brion Tingler told Business Insider.  This year’s event is even more global and Alibaba is aiming to increase international retailers selling products to China and the domestic retailers to expand overseas. Sales last year generated 467 million delivery orders and created havoc for mail carriers. The use of SMS can facilitate ease of secure shopping, notification and delivery of packages, customer satisfaction and in turn increased sales.
